Another short scale strings thread.....

So I'm close to acquiring a vintage Hagstrom F400 bass and need help choosing strings, this will be my first short scale bass so I'm not very educated on getting strings for these. If i bought a set of long scales and strung this bass with them would it sound alright? I ask this because my favorite strings are Elixir Nanonwebs on my Gibson Victory Artist bass because i can get a tone very similar to John Paul Jones' tone in this song(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF8Hug8ISMQ&list=PL99D6FDAD1AD28AA2&index=196)and the way they feel on my fingers, but they don't make a short scale set sadly. Any short scale strings that anyone can highly recommend? I like the sound I get out of my jazz strung with Rotosound swing bass 66 as well. If I can use the Elixirs with this bass I'd be extremelly happy so if that would work and sound good let me know
