When the unit is run in mono mode, is the signal routed through both channel A and B, or only one or the other?

It uses both channels , which makes for alot of tonal permutations.

Bob:

In mono mode, think of the SF-2 as a 3 band mixer. One band is the dry signal, and the other two are the two filtered channels. I start by turning both filtered channels completely off and set my guitar's dry sound the way I like. Then I turn the dry channel on the SF-2 completely off and turn up the A filter channel. I usually set this one in low pass mode and dial in a low freq. tone I like. Then I turn filtered channel A completely off and turn up filtered channel B. I usually set this one either in band pass or high pass mode and fiddle around until I get a high freq. tone I like. Then I turn channel B off. Finally I bring up the dry channel again, then mix in filtered channels A & B to get the final tone I'm looking for. I hope this helps.

Thanks. I am thinking about taking the plunge, but have never been able to try the SF-2. Any experience with running the SF-2 with a delay unit also?

Bob,

I'm just a lowly bass player and don't use many effects but I don't think there would be an issue with the SF-2 and a delay unit. Since the SF-2 is a tone shaping unit, I think it's mutually exclusive with a delay.

The SF-2 is really a cool unit. The other posters have given good info on running in mono mode. In stereo mode (the way I use mine), the SF-2 works quite akin to Series II electronics. It works well with my Alembic and non-Alembic bassses.

The one thing you might want to be careful about with a delay and the SF-2 is to make sure you aren't overloading the input stage of the delay (assuming the delay is after the SF-2, which it may not be). I have the Moogerfooger Analog Delay, and found that with active basses it would quickly distort (in an unpleasant way) if I had the bass frequencies boosted on the bass, even if the input gain light wasn't hitting the red.

This shouldn't be a problem (especially if you have the SF-2 later in the chain), but just thought I should point it out.

I just started using an SF-2 during the past few months and I think it is AMAZING!

Last I saw it was when I was considering putting the guts of it into my Starfire. Then I went on the road and forgot about it. Now that I have my Series I back, I want to get it cranked up.

However, now I'm in Tokyo for the week, so I can't do anything with it at the moment.
