« on: September 05, 2011, 03:46:51 PM »
I am thinking about purchasing a new fender Stratocaster the Jeff Beck model  new for around 1,600.00 ( not the custom shop model )I need someone to help me with a Question about the trem.bar.Can you pull up the pitch two full steps or more like one full step; of course you can drop the pitch but can you raise the pitch?... again this is the stock Jeff Beck model Strat. Thanks for the help.

A student of mine has the Jeff Beck model, and as far as I can see, it will depend mostly on the bridge's setup. Beck uses it a little bit raised so he can go up with it, but it can be set up as well so there is no up movement at all (just as any normal strat bridge). The original bridge setup was uncomfortable for my student, since he tends to rest his hand on the bridge and this was causing constant pitch problems, so he got it set up flat against the body.

you may want to get your student to install one of these.
Hipshot tremsetter. I have one that came originally fitted to my 1992 Fender Strat Ultra and it works well in maintaining pitch if you rest your hand on the bridge during play.
