Jazzy, I'm assuming you've already listened to The Other One. If not, check it out! Phil's intro and the Dead's music served as a gateway into Alembicland for me.

The music was on whilst working so didn't really take much notice of the track names. I only noted the Desolation Row one because the guitar made me think of Mark Knopfler so I checked the name.

Jazzy:

To get a good approximation of a live Dead show on a good night, listen to Live Dead, a double album from the Fillmore in 1969 - one of the recording crew was our very own Ron Wickersham - especially Dark Star/St. Stephen/The Eleven (so named because it is in 11/4 time).

My name is Bill, and I am an unrepentent  Deadhead.

If you're really desperate there are a handful of rehearsal recordings from my dead tribute 'Woldflower Seed' on this reverbnation site.  First gig on friday :-)

Or go to deadlists.com to listen to almost any show they did (though it gets skimpier all the time; as they release more Vault & Dick's Picks CDs/DVDs, they limit access to those shows).  There are also getting to be a lot of full shows on Youtube; here's the 2/11/70 late show at Fillmore East to get you started - because If It Ain't Live, It Ain't Dead!  Includes the legendary Dark Star>Spanish Jam with with the Dead, D. & G. Allman, B. Oakley, B. Trucks, P. Green, D. Kerwin, & A. Lee.

You can also check out a lot of Dead shows at archive.org. Many soundboards there! I wish that had existed 20 years ago so I wouldn't have accumulated 400 cassette tapes!
