An amazing and once-in-a-generation talent, but one more sad reminder of the difficulty and sad state of recovery and mental health care in this country.
While his spiraling problems had driven away a lot of people in his life, this was ultimately an unnecessary death, and should be a reminder to us all that this can be a very nasty business and to try hard to reel back in those we know who have these issues before they join the ranks of the statistics. The very idea that he was walking around homeless and worse, and bouncing in and out of recovery efforts are saddening beyond belief.
