Hope this is not a double post!
Does anyone know how to adjust the micro tilt system to get the neck closer to the strings??
Is it just one bolt loosened, or all three???

One bolt, adjust the tilt then check all three.

I had an old G&L with that system and it worked great the couple of times I ever felt the need to adjust it.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with the 3 bolt neck, that era of Fender instruments just got a bad rep for some reason. Bear in mind that Leo also used the 3 bolt system on the early Music Man basses and they are recgonized as fine instruments.

On many American series guitars, a Micro-Tilt adjustment is offered. It replaces the need for a shim by using a hex screw against a plate installed in the butt end of the neck. The need to adjust the pitch (raising the butt end of the neck in the pocket, thereby pitching the neck back) of the neck occurs in situations where the string height is high and the action adjustment is as low as the adjustment will allow.For guitars with the Micro-Tilt adjustment, loosen the two neck screws on both sides of the adjustment access hole on the neckplate by at least four full turns. Tightening the hex adjustment screw with an 1/8 hex wrench approximately 1/4 turn will allow you to raise the action approximately 1/32. Re-tighten the neck screws when the adjustment is complete. The pitch of the neck on your guitar has been preset at the factory and in most cases will not need to be adjusted.

What Bill said above. Keep in mind the Micro-Tilt does not raise the whole neck but just the heel. Raising it too much can result in an unwanted tilt back to the neck. My 76 has the same 3 bolt neck with Micro-Tilt and I never had any problems with the neck not being solid in the pocket (unlike me ). I think the complaints were twofold, the idea being new and maladjustment of the tilt mechanism.

The bad rep the micro-tilt got was because if you got a bad neck pocket, you only had two screws holding it...it's crazy but Fender neck pockets can vary widely(no pun intended)...have a Strat at work right now with a sloppy pocket-could easily slide a pick into each side; maybe not a 1mm that I use, but I'd bet a .55-60 would go...Tony

So, it's just unscrew the one bolt about 3 or 4 turns. and adjust the angle.
Which way do I turn it to bring the neck closer to the strings???
