Pete, good luck! I woke up this morning with my ankle in such excruciating pain that I could not stand, so I understand the importance of that part of the body quite well. It's a bit better now.

Heal well and quickly! I'll be sending thoughts your way!

Best healing wishes, from someone who has spent the last five days in pain because of high uric acid levels. Dieting and painkillers have worked well, though, as pain and swelling on my knuckles have diminished a lot. So there, best healing wishes.. indeed!!!

You never really know a person until you walk a mile in their shoes if not exact quote a close paraphrase. Everyone has a story and everyone has a unique journey that they call their own. It's great to be able to lend a temporary hand to others journeys.
Juan, that sounds like Gout and gout is no joke. If the diet doesn't work there are ways of bringing the uric acids down. Do it, I was told the Gout is like having a million tiny shards of glass in the joint. Good news it's pretty easy to fix it. Just do it ASAP.
Oliver, I'm not sure what that is other than what Can be Googled. I truly pray your on the right side of things.
Dave, in the early 80's my original career path choice was in motorcycles, but I found the Studio life.
Slawie, what can I say. Perfect my brother. Even our Basses are close in pedigree. 75 Series 1
Returning all the thoughts good will and prayers to you all.
Peace ,
Pete

My pain is gout as well. It entered my life last fall (and really struck right as I was starting my bar studies. A bit distracting). It is no joke and is the second most excruciating pain I've felt (#1 is a gallstone attack. Imagine tightly gripping shards of glass and nails in a hand covered with poison ivy.). I tried the dietary approach (cherry juice; massive doses of turmeric; avoidance of foods high in purines, etc.) but the results were unreliable. Yes, it's like a million tiny shards of glass in the joint. So, now I take 300mg of allopurinol, but as this past week's attack in a new part of my body proves, it's not a cure. My advice is to get on top of it as soon as you can as the crystals can cause permanent damage. My right big toe joint has been degraded. It's annoying, but not as much as what Pete's going through right now.

I had thought gout was a distant anachronism of the 18th century, but I was wrong. I didn't even maintain the classic gout lifestyle (alcohol, meat, and other rich foods), so it's a bit unfair, but life is just that way.

Take care of yourselves, people!

Edwin,
My heart goes out to you on this, I to am plagued with it. When I hear of someone with these symptoms I can't express more the need to take care of it and take it seriously. We are going to get tired of hearing this but Its No Joke
I'm at 300mg in the AM and 150Mg in the eve. from what my Doctor has said is that in time if you can get your Uric Acid levels below 5 for a long enough time that your body can have a chance to dissolve some of the built up crystals. You will have a slow reversal. it took a long time to build without notice than one day on the floor! The existing damage is probably permanent. It's been some time since I shared in the broken glass and if I have anything to say about it, the last time will be my last.
Oh another thing about Allopurinol is don't stop taking it or go cold turkey you can get a reverse attack. Gout is some Evil stuff.

Act ASAP then don't let up! Peace,
Pete

Pete; the book isn't about motorcycles (they're a peripheral theme), but you probably knew that already.

Artichokes. God bless them. I have eaten a lot of it in thee past few days, and also drank the water on which they were boiled (I was advised to keep it and drink it, at least two glasses a day). Since I don?t believe in miracles or any other related kind of wizardry (Other than the miracle of sound and music.. that is...), I will not say anything of the kind, but I have to acknowledge it has served me well. Swelling and pain are close to none as of this afternoon... which allowed me to enjoy the World Cup Final a little better.

So, it may rock your boat or not, but in the end, Artichokes are a nice food option, whether you suffer from high Uric or not. And also are high in fiber, which is always good. May the Artichoke good vibes be with you!

I looooove artichokes! One of the things I miss about living in Santa Cruz, right up the road from Castroville. Add that to Gilroy, Garlic Capital, and you have some good eating!

I will say that just staying very hydrated makes a huge difference.

Wow, it's been 8 weeks since the surgery and because I have apparently did everything as I should have (Or did no damage) I am out of a cast 2 weeks ahead of schedule and in what one of our Band Members calls a Star Wars Empire Storm Trooper Boot. I'm at a 25% weight bearing stage.

This has been a long haul. In 1979 I was cut off by a car riding my motorcycle. This injury resulted in 21 months in a full cast and lots of time to listen to music and have a unique Bass sound enter my conciseness. In that time I took up playing the Bass picking up a New Fender P Bass. Needless to say I was a bit frustrated when I couldn't get that unique Bass sound that I grew to love so much. Many years later finally I realized what was missing at least in part and that was a company named Alembic.
We all live and travel a long strange trip. Lots of zigs and zags filled or not. ;) but as I stated in my first post here I feel really Blessed to have found this board, these instruments. And as a bonus having Phil Lesh coming home to reclaim that sound, that amazing resonant sound! Phil Thanks for the memories when I needed them all those years ago. And everyone at present in gratitude for this little space of cyber world making a tough time a little easier.
Peace,
Pete

Hope your recovery continues on course.  And yes, the pics of Phil and his new bass are wonderful; they have their own healing energy!

I really don't have any desires in drawing this out, but because of how the day went I feel compelled to share it with you all.
1- I go into for X-rays and see the Orthopedic Surgeon.
2- Gives me the green light all is healed and I can now put full weight on my ankle. Easier said than done but great news.
3-As far as he's concern I don't need to come back I'm done. Cool now the even better part!
I heard from the Nurses he is big on woodworking and likes to use exotic woods. I tell him I play some pretty special Basses that have such wonderful wood and designs. He tells me he has a son going to Berkley School for Music. Within seconds we are on the Alembic web sight! We spent at least 1/2 of the time talking types of wood and on the Alembic site.
You just can't make this sh^# up. Good guy and he's forwarding this site to his son.

Like I said Thank you for your thoughts, vibes and Prayers.
May we all find Peace on earth,
Remembering 9/11
Pete
