I resontly purchased a rogue 5 and need help with the PU selections & controls. I appreciate the input. This is probably a common question so if there is already a thread on the topic please direct me there.  thanks  Steve

Q switches I take it are quick boost switches which I have three. 1st & top are 3 position,2nd is 3 position and 3rd is 2 position.I can experiment with these...Control knobs are Volume..and then Pan which pans PUs from front to back with a neutral stop position.....and then the Filter knob which I have least experience with but I do like it. the filter knob does not move freely and is very tight in certain positions. It seems to sweep by itself intermittenly. Not often but one time when it did I thought I was loosing power or weak battery but I have now determined I believe it may be intermittenly sweeping enough to be noticeable in a db varience.Does this make since and have you ever heard of an issue like this before. My ears may not be what they used to be but I am almost certain about this. I purchased this bass as new/old stock and didn't think I would have any electronic issues. I was thinking about just ordering a new filter/knob assembly from Alembic.

The 2 position switch is your Q switch.  Flick it on (up), hit a note and then roll the filter up and down.  You should hear a wah-wah effect when you do that with the Q on.  
 
The other 3 position switches are your quick change switches for bass and treble. I don't know the boost levels, but there should be a boost if you flick them up, the middle is 'flat' and flicking them down will cut bass or treble.
 
If you're having trouble with the filter/Q switch I'd recommend you call Alembic during the day or send an email and let them know what the situation is.

The filter freedom of movement might just be the knob rubbing on the body. Try raising it by using a playing card or business card as a spacer. Your bass uses collet knobs so see this for the procedure on removing them. Do not try to pull them off as this will damage the pot.  
 
Alembic uses self cleaning pots. Since this bass has been sitting around for awhile I suggest you try exercising the pots. This is done by turning the pot back and forth 20-30 times. If you still have a problem then try calling Alembic for assistance. They are always more than willing to work with you to determine what is wrong.

thanks for info toby. no trouble withthe q switch.and kieth i'll try adjusting the filter knob....one more question...when i flip q switch up/on and adjust filter to preferred sound...once the q switch is flipped down/off...the filter remains to adjusted sound and can only be adjusted when q switch is up/on?...i know you guys have much more experience with electronic than i..i've played a p bass most of my life and just a couple of years ago got a tobias bass with similar electronics (but no q switch) and never have really figured them out either...you guys and this site has really has been helpful..thanks

It doesn't matter whether the switch is on or off; when you turn the filter knob you are changing the point at which high frequency signals are being rolled off.  Switching the Q switch on just provides the boost at the cutoff point that you've chosen with the filter knob, and switching the switch off just removes the boost.  Whether the switch is on or off, turning the filter knob changes the cutoff point.

        I believe with a little more time with her I'll be fine.I can say this,I am cuttin thru a whole lot better,even in the high regrister range which has always seemed a little difficult and with this Alembic its been a breeze! And all that I've worked with are very impressed and I play with some select musicians in my area.I dont know if its making me a better musician or if I'm finally being heard,maybe a little of both and I'm loving it...my playing work load is booking better and after almost 35 yrs of playing it feels like a new world! My only regret is I just now got one.I wish I had one in my twenties!

Probably both.  Many people have posted here about how acquiring an Alembic has made them pay more attention to and improve their technique, and about how the even response throughout the frequency range helps cut through on stage and sounds great in the studio.
