Glad to see that the boys have added a few shows in the land where it all began!

Hopefully, this will enable some of you on the West Coast to see a show.

I'm not going to any of their shows. The closest I will get is to see the Dear Jerry tribute at Merriweather Post Pavillion.

I never understood why they chose Chicago for the final shows. I know it's 20 years after the final shows at Soldier Field in 1995, but that was certainly not a good era for the band. I remember seeing them at the Philly Spectrum in 95 when they busted out Unbroken Chain (one of my favorite songs! This version was very shaky, I thought) and thinking the show was still very lackluster.

Anyway, nice to see some Friday Dead news that will allow many fans to enjoy the music again if they so choose.

Rob, thanks for the head's up. I just put in my request. They're doing it by lottery with only on-line entry. It looks like they are taking precautions to insure the tickets get to the real fans instead of just the scalpers, as happened in Chicago. Of course, without Jerry, it just ain't The Dead. And Trey would not be my first choice, but since it's in my backyard I'll gladly go and have a great time (if my entry gets picked).

Good luck with your request. It sounds like the ticket distribution is being done better this time. I didn't try for Chicago tickets. It's pretty difficult for me to up and leave the family for days for shows that are 10 hours away. Just had a friend offer me a ticket out of the blue for the Dear Jerry thing, so I am going to that. If they webcast Fare Thee Well, I'll watch it from the couch.

Out of all the post-GD configurations, I enjoy anything Phil does the best. I've watched a lot of the stuff from Terrapin Crossroads, and I love it. Great to see him playing Alembic again, too!

It will be interesting to see how many lottery requests they get. I don't go to shows in stadiums so it is easy for me to pass on this.

A friend here in the Bay Area who got shut out of Chicago decided to pull the trigger on one of the Santa Clara package deals when they went on sale this morning. Didn't want to risk getting shut out again. Ended up costing him a bit over $1,3000 for $199 club level seats to both shows plus three nights in a hotel and includes shuttle bus service back and forth.

Remember when there was one price for a concert ticket rather than different price levels?

I personally wouldn't pay that much for any ticket, but there are clearly people out there who will.

I find myself watching a lot of webcasts these days. Not quite the same communal experience, but I at least get to see the performers close up.

It ain't just the Dead, though; Joe Bonamassa (who does not really impress me; I personally know a fair number of better pickers) is playing a cool old theater near here, so, liking the venue, I checked the prices.
Top balcony - $115.
Pit - (brace yourselves) $764.
Yes, I said seven hundred sixy four dollars Federal, for Joe freakin' Bonamassa!

I'm certainly not thrilled about either paying $200 top price, nor the venue (especially after a bunch of shows at Terrapin Crossroads). But, if we get tickets, I'll be going with some guys I went to the Sound Test and many Winterland and Kaiser shows with. The reunion aspect makes it worth it.

$200 is still high , but $1,300 not very hip . This dude would not abide.

The $1300 figure includes multiple tickets at top price, hotel for three nights, and transportation. What gets me is they add a $32 service charge to each night's order - at least it's not $32 per ticket.

OK, then that makes more sense. I was not aware of the parameters of the pricing. Hotel & transportation does not come cheap these days anywhere. Thanks for the itemized breakdown .

When someone (almost always very young) asks if I am/was a hippie, I usually say yes, just because it's be too hard to explain the etymological details of counter-cultural self-identification to someone with no frame of reference. Occasionally, though, I'll say that no, I'm a freak; I know hippies, but they're all 10 years older than me. If I really like the kid, I'll expound.

I have been involved in so many different crusades , scenes and involvements that I would not label my self as anything other then just an individual non-conformist out for the best positive result. I suppose those trying to label me over the span of my lifetime will have a difficult time trying to put me in a categorical description, because from the late 1960's till the present time I have covered lots of ground. ____ I would actually be quite happy If I could only remember my name .

I love that album. I've always wondered about the basses used on that record. Both Lesh and Casady sound like they may be using the same bass? Alembic for sure, maybe the guild?

Does anyone know what Alembic was used on this record? Great great bass tones there.
