1976 Alembic Series 1 Long Scale (34") bass for sale. Maple/Purpleheart neck (unless it is Birch/Amarinth). Koa Body, Maple top. Just tracked with her last week and the engineer was thrilled with how well the bass records. Includes power supply (little blue box) and cables. The bass is 30 years old and looks its age, but the sound is fantastic. It has a very lively/snappy sound. Low action, great for playing your favorite Stanley Clarke or Mark King licks

I bought this from a forum member at the beginning of this year...but I have to move it to make room for a custom build. Asking $2800 or best offer. Why so low? The headstock cracked and was repaired (some time prior to 2002 according to previous owner). It was not the prettiest repair, but it is stable. I have plenty o' pics for those who may are interested.

The angle of the grain figuring on the maple top near the controls does look similar, although it is hard to tell based on the resolution of the two photos. Did it have a break at the headstock joint and pry marks on the edge of the hum-canceller when you owned it?

It did have headstock damage. I dont remember any pry marks. I sold that bass to Daryll Jones years ago..............

crobbins,seems that you have some info regarding this bass. Could you share more about the history and any other info about the bass? Would greatly appreciate your input.

76-056 is the serial number.

It is remarkably similar to David Hood's bass (although I have confirmed that it is not his bass). It may have been the other one at Manny's when he went to purchase his bass.

Isn't 056 from 1974? I have 74-59.

I recognize that 056 isn't the same as 56. Maybe I'm just not familiar with the numbering.

I was confused by that myself, but the headstock clearly says 76, and the bridge matches the style I have seen on basses from late 1975 through early 1976.

I think this is one of those instruments that has the prefix AE as part of the serial number, and whose numbers are out of sequence.

I believe that from '72 to '77, instruments that were built for customers outside of the US were marked AE for Alembic Export or AC for Alembic Export Canada. Apparently each series, AE and AC, had its own set of serial numbers.

Thanks for shedding some light on this Dave. It does indeed have the AE prefix.

And yes, this is that bass. I purchased it from dluxe early this year.
