My Epic 4 for your Epic 5
« on: October 25, 2011, 12:57:54 PM »
I've got an Alembic Epic 4, 1994, quilted maple top. Bass is in good condition, but used. I'm looking for an Epic 5 (or 4) with a dark face wood. I'm willing to trade down, for the right bass. Would like pretty much anything but quilted maple. Bubinga, wenge, any of 'em.

If you're interested, shoot me an email at Phoenixcreations@hotmail.com

I can upload pictures here once I get home.

She sounds great, and has no problems. I've just always wanted something with a darker top. Figure my best chance is offering to trade for a fiver.

Let me know!

Nobody is looking to trade for a maple epic 4? Would prefer a local deal, Hampton, VA. Literally ANY other epic beside maple is good in my books.

I'm not in a rush to get rid of 'er, I'm just looking at starting to gig here again in a month or so, and would like to not have a bass in transit at the time.

Sorry, Epic 5er here, but Maple-top. However, I'd LOVE a Maple-top Epic 4. :P Willing to change yours for a WAY-cheaper fiver such a Washburn or a Samick? I guessed not. Well, I tried... :P

Well, I wouldn't mind trying out a 5er. And it would give me a better excuse to trade for a dark top 4. Might not be the most prudent move, but in the end get me a tiny bit closer to where I'd like to end up.

I'd consider it if you're honestly interested.

Here is a link to a thread Bill posted about the cleanup of the Epic.  Looks to be an unlined fretless

Wow, that'd be tough. Jumping from a fretted 4 to an unlined fretless V.

She looks great, though. I bet after a life of misery and hell, she's got tons of mojo. What did you do with the finish? Did you sand back down, and even it back out and refinish, or did you leave the finish as is?

Michael:

I'm in the S.F. Bay Area, just about an hour south of Alembic.  I never touched the finish as it seemed fine.  It's either oil or satin.  Feels like wood.

@bill

I can't lie, Bill. I'm a bit hesitant. If it had fret lines, I'd probably be all about it. As it stands, I'm scared. If I did get it, it would most likely be a stepping stone to what I actually want, which is a 4 fretted with a dark top. It's just too big of a jump for me.

If you were local, I'd love to come try it out, see if I can even adapt to a fretless, see how a fiver feels, but alas, you are not.

Let me think on it a bit, if nothing else jumps up at me, I might take you up on it.

Michael
