What do I Have here?
« on: February 14, 2009, 06:25:30 AM »
I recently inherited my late Brother's bass & guitar collection. He was very proud of his Alembic, as he was with all of his instruments. I just can't seem to find out which model this one is. I've tried to contact Alembic, but have yet to receive an email, or phone response from them. Attached is a pic. Any ideas? Thanks!

That is a beautiful Elan.  I agree with fc that it looks to be a koa top.

So sorry for your loss.

Hee hee; it's easy to get Flip and I confused, we both have long hair and play Alembic basses!

The body core is most likely Maple, as is the neck.  The fretboard is Ebony.  The controls are Volume, Pan, Low-pass filter, and Q switch.

It's an absolutely wonderful bass!  When you plug it in, you'll probably notice, compared to other basses, the increased clarity and evenness of tone throughout the frequency range.

As for contacting Alembic; they absolutely love to help in any way they can, but they are a very small shop and the amount of email, phone messages, and board postings they get can be a bit overwhelming despite their best intentions.
