I thought the Persuader's had Fender type pickups.

I'm starting to think my Distillate has a Coco top...especially after seeing the latest Stanley Clarke Signature for sale..as well as this one.  It might have a Cocobolo body too.. judging from what I've seen elsewhere in comparison.

Hi Dan,
This is a good question for most Persuaders do have the P/J setup. From what I understand the Persuader was a way to ?Persuade? people of the value of the Alembic Activators not to mention making a nice Bass in the process. Everything Alembic is custom. I have a Persuader and the layout of this is Volume / Volume / Low pass. The Spoiler is Volume / Q Switch / Low Pass / rotary pickup selector switch. Also the SN# has a P in it meaning Persuader. (See attached)  For whatever its worth I added a Q to my Persuader made a big difference.

Hope this Helps
Pete

P/J is the common config on the four, but I don't believe I have ever seen any Alembic with a P/J on a five or six.

Thanks for the info.  So it's really about the preamp and cavity electronics, as far as categorization goes.

That tends to be true for the Persuader model, but different models and different eras rely on other characteristics as far as the naming goes. The ability to customize leads to some confusing hybrids.

For example, I own a bass that looks like a Stanley Clarke model, but has Europa electonics in it. The bass has a serial number that characterizes it as an Essence. Huh? you say? Well, it was ordered as an Essence with the body and scale adjusted to match an SC and the electonics upgraded to include the quick tone change switches. In that era, it was possible to order it this way and save a lot of money over ordering the same specs and calling it an SC, Rogue, or Europa model. I think Alembic has cleaned up most of that so that ordering a lower-end bass with a bunch of upgrades is no longer a bargain over just ordering the model that includes those features.

At times, Alembic will put a C designation in the serial number indicating a a customization that doesn't match any particular model.

That sounds like a particularly great bass.  The Essence I had was a bit of a reach for my hands around the lowest frets.

Does your Essence have the tilted back neck feature of the SC too?  That must be the biggest upgrade of them all.

All Alembics have a neck that is angled back a little, no upgrade there.

That feature sets 'em apart from just about all of the luxury bass companies(really all of the one's I know of).  Much appreciated.

That Persuader above would look alot better without that B string.
