Spoiler & Persuader (in dire need of tlc)
« on: January 28, 2015, 03:10:18 AM »
Caught these two on ebay yesterday. This beautiful Koa-topped Persuader is stripped-out and now has aftermarket Bart equipment, but the Spoiler still has her original parts. Both are rough but salvageable.

The Spoiler looks very nice (decal and solid Koa body)

The persuader is in dire need indeed... From the ad: The Bartolini pickups look to be factory installed.

... (that mess is definitely not done by Alembic)

That top is stunning though.

Could be the truth. They don't state what type of factory installed them. ;)

Re: factory installed - How well I know... when I first saw the listing, I thought it was that same rotten, lying, jerk that beat me last Summer. (it wasn't of course)

I have been in contact via email . I requested that he shows a pic of the control cavity . He responded by doing as requested. I also mentioned to the seller that the Bartolini pickups were most likely replacements and  likely NOT factory installed (by Alembic ) in my opinion .  He thanked me for my input and was civil in his responses and interaction with me . I am not biding.

I did this just for informational purposes and disclosure of the facts
Cavet Emptor on this one .

Yeah, that sucks big time... But you came out pretty well :-) (though at some costs)

This one looks scary, carelessly connected wires and that output so close to the shielding paint.... :-(

Maybe we should start a fundraiser and have you resurrect this one also? :-)

I wonder... How come the Bart preamp says Bass/Mid/Treble tone control, and yet the bass only has 3 pots? I do assume at least 2 of these are Volume and Pan. So... Either the third pot is a three-stack, or there is something very badly installed in there...

Whoever ends up with this one is getting a project bass... it's a totally fixable mess. At least it doesn't look like the holes have been moved or reamed out like mine were. And that top wood is a great-looking board. I hope somebody does put it back right.

Flip's right - at the right price, I'd take on another restoration... got my eye on another at the moment though. =) I need to quit thinking about fixer-uppers and keep building the funds for a custom order.

Wow, somebody bought the Persuader, one bid - $699.99

Wasn't me, but I was tempted Flip =) Had she been a five-string I might have lost my resolve and done it again. LOL!

Seriously, it's got a lot of potential, and for somebody being in it for less than seven bills, I hope that somebody fixes her up nice.
