Nice looking Europa. I hope the seller gets what he/she is asking but this is the price of a Series bass.

I was thinking the same thing. I would love a Europa 5, but not at $4500.

Hammer and Pasewark, where are you seeing 5-string, series 1 or 2 instruments in this price range?

I see many older 4 strings, series 1's in the $4000 - $7000 range depending on options and features.  I have never seen a 5 string series instrument for less than $5000 and we know what a new one of those costs.  My research shows that the 5-string Europa's are very popular.  Much more so than the 4 or 6 string variants.

The prices that Susan and Mica need to charge for new instruments continues to rise due to wood scarcity and other factors.

A new Europa 5 with similar features costs more than $10K.  A used one in great condition with nice features, recent RF noise upgrade, service and clean bill of health from Alembic in Santa Rosa is worth this kind of money... maybe a little less, but not a lot less.

Alleva-Coppola and Sadowsky (Fender clones) are selling for this kind of money or more and the Europa is a nicer, more versatile instrument, imho.   Stepping off soap box.

That is not a series instrument. There is another Europa 5 similar to this one for $3700. That's more in my price range. Any instrument is worth any price, as long as you have a buyer that's willing to spend the money.

I'd agree with Donald (Pasewark) here. Even though it's a very nice 5-string, its a Europa and as he indicated there's another 5-string Europa out there that looks very nice for $800 less. My own 6-string Europa cost me $3000 last year and its in perfect condition.

The Series basses to which I was referring were not 5-stringers, but 4s. I agree that a 5-string Series I or II would cost more but very nice 4-string versions have been available at the rate of one or two a month in the $4,500-$5000 range.

I do hope you get what you are asking if its yours and it is a very nice bass. You may in fact get someone who really wants a 5-string Europa and is willing to pay the asking price.  On the other hand you may need to wait for a while to find that individual.

Outside of body shape and being newer, A Rogue or Europa is mostly similar to a Distillate. That should put it above an Essence, but below any of the SC or MK models in the range. Admittedly, body shapes and woods can make a difference in resale values, and there's plenty of variation. There's such a big drop from new cost to used cost that it can take a few owners before a bass drops to the price that those of us who have watched the market are used to. The person who pays $10K for a new one is going to have to be pushed very hard before it will sell for $3500. All prices are what they are. Pay it, make an offer, sell it, or wait for another opportunity. Most are honest and just trying to get what they believe is fair value.

You drive it off the showroom floor and it is going to be worth a lot less.

That's funny, 'cause most of mine seem to go the opposite way value wise; FI I bought my '83 Spoiler for about $1500 and it's now hovering around $15K...
My new Elan 5 at least doubled in value and is now worth close to $30K... (roadcase included)

A used Europa-5 just appeared on Ebay for $6,000. If you hold on to yours just a bit longer Jazzyvee you may be able to trade straight-up for a short scale Series II or even get some cash in addition to a new Series II bass.

Just checked it out, It has a higher spec of electronics but still.... an interesting valuation. I also have one in that configuration so if it sells for the asking price I will know what ballpark to pitch in if/when the time comes.
