I have spent the last two days reading various threads wondering where it would be most appropriate to post.  With bittersweet memories I shared in your joys of owning such a work of art and craftmanship.  It is indeed a birth each time one is completed.
 
For me, fate has taken it's worst turn - sometime around Feb. 20, 2003, someone abducted my Elan 6-string.  This is the second Alembic I've owned; the first being an early 80's Distilate 4-string that I regret selling to this day.  I am still in a state of shock and have spent every available second gathering information and passing it along.  I have published a webpage with all available info and I'm asking that you please check it out.

The fact that the serial number and work order number do not appear on that site is due to the fact that it helps keep this particular instrument unique and thereby assists in its recovery.

Sorry to be greeting you on such terrible cirumstances.  That sucks!!!!  There's really not much worse than hearing of a musician having his/her instrument stolen!!  I'm in and out of a lot of stores here in New England, I'd be happy to keep an eye out for you.  You should also contact Bass Player and Bassics magazines.  They sometimes have a police blotter page.  Also, Alembic has a Stolen Alembics page on their main site.  Good luck!!  I'm sure you'll hear from others here as well.

Steven, I know just how you feel, my Series 1 was stolen back in 1979, I recovered it 3 week later when a music store called me and said my bass was there for repairs, they stole the bass but not the power supply and the batteries were dead so the bass didn't work. when I got to the music store and ID it I called the police then locked the case, the next day when the slimeball came to pick up my bass he was met by the police which led to the recovery of another guitar that was stolen at the same time. the police kept my Alembic for 9 months, the DA let me have it back after the 9 months in the property room, the police destroyed my case but the case was still locked and the bass was unhurt. KEEP THE FAITH!!!
you will get it back.

I'm chocked and I don't know much to say (the brothers and sisters here will see that as rather unusual). I wish you luck and hope.
My humble advice.
It could be due to the settings of my computer but the pictures you put on the site were highly blurred and with very low definition. Is there a way that you make that better? By rescaling the pictures in a smaller format or by re-scanning the pictures.
I KNOW there is a full description of your beloved but in case of reacting on a theft report, people react on VISUAL stimuli, NOT on WRITTEN. Even us Alembicians who will read the info right away (it's a nice instrument and we are not curious but we like to know everything) will in cases as this react more visually.
I hope you're not offended by this advice, it was ment helpfully and with all respect for your loss.

I agree with Paul on the site's organization.  In haste to get a presence, I published what I had at the time and turned my efforts toward alerting shops statewide of the missing bass.  Yesterday I modified the pictures to more acurately represent the bass as it appears in real life and resized them as well.  Those pictures were taken with a cheap digital camera, sans flash.  [You know how it is...  baby needs a new set of strings!!]  The site has been updated and now you can see just how strikingly beautiful it is without having to scroll.  The same pics are in an email to Mica as I speak and hopefully an entry in the stolen list will appear today.  I'm also making flyers to pass around to all local pawn shops/music stores today and next week I'll spend a day in the major cities near me [Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids] and hit those shops as well.  I'm treating this as an abducted child because to me it is nothing less than that.

Steven, aside from having a bass damaged, having someone steal it has to be OUR greatest concern. I don't know exactly how you're feeling, however, I can only imagine that it's similar to having a family heirloom vanish.  I truly believe that your beloved bass will be returned, and hopefully in the same condition before it was stolen. Think positively, and keep your EYES and EARS open, (I know that the members in the club will be doing the same).
