Hello! I just bought my first Alembic from Bass Central in Florida and am thrilled completely with this instrument. I'll get pics up in the next few days. I was wondering about the brass truss rod cover and had a question for the Alembic company. I'd like to get another brass cover without the serial number on it as I'd like to get an engraving done on a new one. Is it possible for me to purchase another blank cover? I plan to keep the original but want to put the new engraved one on. I'm new here and hope this thread is in the right place.

Congratulations on your new Alembic, Matt. Which model did you get?
 
Getting a spare truss rod cover from Alembic is not a problem, Mica can tell you how much it will cost.  I'm sure she'll let you know as soon as she can.

Thanks, Valentino. Here is a picture of my new Alembic. I sold 3 of my basses to get her and it was worth every penny! It's a Mark King Signature Standard with a lovely cocobolo top. I love the maple accent strip and the Omega cut out. It also has a long scale neck which suits me fine. After playing and buying an awful lot of basses, I can see now that there really is Alembic and then there's everyone else. Thanks to Alembic for such an incredible instrument.

Yes, there are ALEMBICs and then there's everything else.  Most people have never seen one, and they are floored when they hear one for the first time.  Your bandmates turn green before your very eyes.
 
Be sure and REGISTER your bass on the ALEMBIC website, and contact the crew in Santa Rosa about your replacement truss rod cover.

Hello Matt, and congratulations! By the way, last June while I was vacationing in Orlando Florida (DISNEY) I visited bass central, and I played the very bass that you now own. I had a MK signature 5 string at the time, and was dreaming about owning a series II. One of the guys at bass central even attempted to persuade me to abandon alembic for MTD(?)LOL  They were friendly though, and I really enjoyed playing YOUR bass, because it reminded me so much of my first alembic, which was a 4 string SC signature. (You will never forget your first alembic, believe me). Matt, when I returned home from my vacation, I immediately continued searching for my dream bass, and I finally scored a month later, in July! MATT, ENJOY YOUR BASS!!! PS: I'll post some pics as soon as I can, just in case you have any doubt. LOL

Brian, Good to hear from you. I waffled for a while between the 4 and 5 MK Standards BC had. I finally went with the 4 and am loving it. I doubt I ever will forget this, my first, Alembic. However, and please don't take this the wrong way, but hearing about someone else playing my bass is about as enjoyable as hearing about my girlfriend's former boyfriends! LOL! I just like thinking that I was the first. Even though the bass was completed in 2001 so I know it's had it's share of testing before me. Thanks again Brian. Looking forward to seeing pics of your Series I.

She's like the town bike, baby...everyone's been for a ride!  I played that bass, ever so briefly, when I was at Bass Central too.  It's very nice, to be sure.  The 34 scale was a bit much for me...I'm definitely happier with my medium scale Signature.  
 
Something else interesting to note - photographing Coco Bolo has got to be an art form.  The second picture posted is a much more accurate representation of how that bass actually looks.  It is not nearly as bright orange as the first one would lead you to belive.  There are a couple of pics of a Spoiler I used to own in the showcase section.  That Coco Bolo WAS bright bright orange...but the contrast in the photos between the orange & black is more pronounced than it was in the actual wood itself.  Very interesting...

Paul, You're right. The second picture I posted looks more like the bass than the first. I took both pictures with the same camera, no flash and in indirect sunlight at around the same time of day. Go figure.
