1986 Spoiler
« on: March 16, 2005, 04:38:58 AM »
Ever since I started out as a bass player, some 25+ years ago, I've had an Alembic on my wishlist. Somehow I never got around to gather the money needed....and when I at times had the money, something else always got in between. That's life I guess.
Today, however, I can titulate myself an Alembic owner as I just a few days ago got presented with an offer I just couldn't resist! A REAL bargain! This beauty is now mine and already #1 in my collection. She sings! Oh, man how she sings!

  • Are 3 Alembics enough? NO!

Indeed welcome Bjorn!
There appear to be a couple of different types of quilting in your top wood, some areas look more bubbly than others. It's another beautiful example of Alembics superb craftsmanship.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Feels real good to be a certified member of the community at last.
As always, pictures do no justice to the instrument. This one is a real shapeshifter. It looks very different depending on from which angle you view it and how the light falls on it, but I guess that goes for most tops like this one.
I'm no wood expert and I'm curious about what the core is made of. I'll try to get a picture of the flipside and post it here. Maybe one of you guys can enlighten me.
Thanx again and all the best to you all.

edit: It pays off to read through the info on this site ;) . According to the products page, the core is mahogany. Makes sense

Welcome to the family Bean, I have a 1986 Spoiler as well.  Mine has a Bocata top and Walnut back.  My neck is a 3 piece Maple.  I play my Spoiler through a SWR 350 head and into a SWR 4x10 cabinet.

Hello all!
I've been using my Alembic on stage for 4 months or so now and I just can't find words to express how pleased I am with this instrument! It makes my job a whole lot more fun and easier. This bass responds in a way I've never experienced before and the sound is gorgeous. Cheers all you people at Alembic!

By the way, I use EBS bass systems. You should definitely check them out if you get the opportunity!

Hi Bjorn; I'm at your web site right now listening to the tunes.  Very, very good !!!  Very nice quality recording; great balance.  Very professional!  Nice horn arrangements.  Nice vocal, nice harmony.  I can hear some Earth, Wind & Fire influence.  The bass is well balanced in the mix; tight bass lines.  Some nice slap in the third tune!

Thank you very kindly Dave!
We now have a new singer who has taken our sound to the next level. She's just amazing. We're about to make a new CD this fall and we're all very excited about it I can tell you. We've been working very hard to get the right gigs in the right places and now it seems it's starting to pay off.
