Enclosed plse find a scan of my Spyder 4string bass and his small son, a model of the old Entwistle Spyder. The Spyder is really fantastic and it soon will be joined by the 8string.

Very very nice. You have the 8-string coming as well !!! Congratulations. I hope you don't have to purchase a new vehicle to accommodate both of them. However, if so, it will be well worth it.

Have you played any other Alembics? How would you compare the tone of the Spyder4?

I am contemplating a Spyder4 to go with my 8 (can't let the Germans win the Alembic arms race) - but my S1 is sounding so nice, and I do like the short scale length.

The Spyder-4 has a seriously wide tone range. I too play a short and medium scale bass. If I bought a Spyder, I'd be chasing my left hand around the room in circles!!! It's a long bass. But, hey, to each his own. They are truly awesome.

Yeah - the first fret on my Spyder8 seems soo far away. And as for the tuning pegs...

The running joke in the band is about aircraft landing on my Spyder8's neck when I turn the side LEDs on.

no I haven?t played any Alembics before but let?s see what the future will bring.... :-)
And yes, the Spyder is really big and you have to take care with it walking around.
DNburgess, plse post some scans of your Spyder Eight.
Would love to see him...

Well ...yesterdayafternoon I went for a visit to Spider Ollie (not THAT far away from where I live) and I was happy to hold this SPider in hand.
It seems odd but she's extremely well balanced!

I'm SO glad that you have finally managed to meet each other!!!!!!!!

I was quite nervous when I went to Hilversum to collect The Dragon's Wing - I was going to meet Oliver and also Edwin, of course. I had no need to worry - both Edwin and Oliver speak near perfect English and they are both great guys!!!!

Oliver's Spyder is SO well balanced - when I held it for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. But it just - well - it was right (too heavy for me to play for any amount of time though - the result of a car accident 10 years ago and some damage to my lower back). It is a fantastic instrument - ask Oliver, I waved goodbye to his Spyder, I was so taken with it, when it was time to end our time together!

I believe that Oliver is now playing DR strings but I couldn't be sure of the gauge.

I would say to anyone who is considering something a little different regarding shape - have the power of your convictions - after all - look what came my way!
