Pete has been using Alembic for ever, both in and out of the studio..

Both basses appear to date around 1976. Single truss rod, no cover. Interestingly, both basses have standard omega bodies. On both, the top strap button has been moved to the heel. Interestingly for a bass of this era, the bottom bass does not have a pickup selector switch on the lower horn, or any evidence that one was ever there. The knobs on the bottom bass do not look stock.

Could it be a volume, pan, filter, filter arrangement?

I can't recall seeing that arrangement on a 70's era bass. But then I have a poor memory.

I suppose it could be the case that the bottom bass is not from the '70's after all. I suppose the truss rod cover may have been removed. But the opening doesn't look big enough for two truss rods. Perhaps it's just an optical illusion; small picture, resolution, angle, etc.

nazareth are playing edinburgh next saturday - If I can get a ticket I might go along just to hear the bass. (although i did like their hit 'my white bicycle')*

What a fantastic gig. Went with Mpisanek. Pete played the lower of the two basses for the whole show. After a few sound issues, he was eventually getting a very nice upfront tone. he plays with a pick and amplification was through 2 trace elliot 600watt heads into a 4x10 and 2x15. Interestingly, neither cabinet had a high frequency horn installed.Up close, the bass appears to be a very nice flame walnut top which has a reddy-brown colour.
I can confirm it has a single trussrod. Controls look like signature - there's no 5 pin socket, just the jack. Problem is, there's a dummy hum-canceller so I guess it's some kind of hybrid.
Anyway, the playing was superb and Pete really looked as if he was loving every minute.
If you like 70s hard rock (somewhere between deep purple and ACDC) then you will love Nazareth. Looks like the rest of the tour up to August is taking in Europe - Quite a few Swedish, German and Norwegian dates.

That's the one Keavin. Looking closely at the amp, they look like they're AH300 and not 600 as I originally thought. Hard to imagine these two with hair down to their knees 30 years ago ;-)

BTW. just off to the right was a huge monitor that pete hid behind a couple of times to smoke something 'interesting'.

I saw them in Nashville back in'99 & they sounded great. A very huge sound plus they opened with Razzamanazz! All fists in the air pumping Rock & Roll! Yeeaaa!!!! Oh yea Pete's bass & rig was fantastic. I miss that old Trace stuff, agreat focused sound was never easier to get.

Saw them again in edinburgh and boy was it loud. pete has doubled his speaker area since I last saw them, now using New trace elliot 4x10s and 1x15s, (4 cabinets in all). i couldn't tell what amps he was using but one looked like an AH1000 12 band. here's a rubbish picture I took with my phone...

pete was playing his flamed walnut bass all night. It looks like signature electronics with a dummy humcancellor.
