I once spoke with Mr Hood for a few minutes, and he told me that by far the bulk of his recorded work on LOTS of records we grew up with that were cut in Muscle Shoals were done on that very bass.

My fave Muscle Shoals story:  Paul Simon was gearing up for his solo record and had heard The Staples' "I'll Take You There" and loved it.  He told his manager to find out who the group of Jamaican(!) musicians were who did that record, see if they'd work with him, find out and let him know.  'Sure thing, Paul'.

So his manager made the enquiries and reported back to Rhymin' Simon he'd found out about that crew from the Staples record:  It was cut by a white redneck session band in at a studio in Northern Alabama !
