Hi Nathan,

Here's what I found out about 90K6247 from the instrument file:

top: Flame Maple
accent: Walnut pinstripe
body: Maple
neck: Maple, 34 long scale
fingerboard: Ebony, no inlays
pickups: MXY
controls: volume, pan, filter, mono output
birthday: not recorded, but likely early December 1990 (rub out was recorded on November 27th)
originally made for: Swee Lee, Singapore

If you've got this bass now, it's been a real world traveller!

Yes Yes,She now lives with me,and shows none of the wear&tear I would expect from such a seasoned world traveller- I'm in Washington State, and she came to me by way of upstate New York!Without a dobt the sweetest thing to happen to me in quite a while..I am pondering whether or not to install a Q-switch- any thoughts and/or resources you all could point me to on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated.Can I expect that my local expert luthier would know how to go about this?Thanks for the build info/background Mica,it only makes me love her all the more!

From what I understand, the addition of a Q switch is a faily simple upgrade for an Essence. Alembic makes a kit with instructions.

The Essence without a Q switch is like having the switch always on; there's always an 8db boost at the frequency where the low pass filter is set. Adding the Q switch will allow you to cut the boost off.

Congrats on the bass! Maple top, neck, body; just like mine!

I have an Orion with Essence electronics. I added the Q switch after I had purchased it. I did the installation myself but it does require a new hole be drilled. I also had to remove some of the body wood inside the cavity so the switch mounting threads would come through the top. If you do not feel comfortable it is something any competent luthier can handle.

I highly recommend adding the switch as it really increases the flexibilty at minimal cost.

Hey, Dave...(davehouck) please fill me in on info regarding ordering theq switch from alembic....I don't see anything like that listed at their website, but I have a local Wizard/Luthier ready and able to do the work as soon as I can give him the actual hardware..I'm finally ready to have all the necessary modifications and extra TLC administered to my pride and joy-your advice will help greatly. Your best bet is to phone or email Alembic directly.

(Dave is probably busy with work right now, haven't seen him here much lately.)

Bob's right on both counts; call or email Alembic to order the switch, and I've haven't been able to spend as much time on the board the last couple weeks as I would like, but I'm catching up!
