That's a gorgeous instrument! The 1st 2 numbers in the serial number are the year it was built, so yours was built in 1994. Maybe Mica can look up the build sheet for you & tell you more about it. Congratulations & welcome to the club!

Thanks for the welcome rusty, I'm still working through some bugs and setup issues. I play both lightly and heavily and everything in between but I think either the last owner was a light touch kind of player or the climate change between California and Vancouver Island Canada has adjusted the neck for me and there is a great deal of fret noise but beautifully low action. The bass still feels good in the hands! First Alembic, first six string...life is good!

I just got my Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe in February. When I took it out of the box, the action was so low it buzzed on almost every note. I read Joey's post on setting up Alembics & got it much better! http://club.alembic.com/Images/16271/16318.html?1107545766 I still have some buzz I'm trying to work out, but have no doubt that it can be done. Alembics are AMAZING instruments & very adjustable to suit your style of playing. I tend to play pretty hard too, but I don't want my strings 1/4 off the neck to keep them from buzzing! I don't hear the buzz with my band, just when I play alone at home, but it still bugs me! I'm hoping that since it's brand new that it still has some settling to do & eventually I can get it set exactly how I want it. Mica has a saying that It takes the wood a little while to realize that it's not a tree anymore!

Hi Dieter, these lookups are done when time permits, and it's a busy little factory so the wait time can often be a few months, rather than weeks. Meanwhile, make some music! That's what these creatures were made for.

Have you had more success with your setup?

Thanks Adrian, I just read this and I have not been on the forum for a while. Coincidentally, I've been doing exactly what you said (making music). I took the bass to a local luthier and he did a brilliant setup after which I promptly decided to have him remove the frets. This bass is now a lined fretless and it sounds really sweet, fat and warm. My problems with the a string sounding muddy on the attack are gone, the electronics problems I solved by tightening the pots as recommended. It would be nice to have as much info as possible but I'm enjoying the instrument anyway.
