Alembic Precision bass pickups.
« on: March 19, 2008, 01:01:29 AM »
Hi guys/ Mica,
Please help!
I have managed to obtain a 2 part Alembic P bass pickup with no controls. Can it be wired straight into my P bass pots, or does it really need a set of circuitry as well? I need to do this on a budget, and can't afford a set of Alembic electronics to go with it....Please advise me!

David:

Alembic pickups are low impedance and require some type of pre-amp.  Wired passive (like a Fender) they will provide very little output.  I have an Alembic employee shopnight guitar that uses an Alembic Stratoblaster as the pre-amp - no other Alembic electronics.

Thanks for that, Bill...I do have a choice of sorts here...
I have a spare set of AXY pickups with some electronics, and I have a self contained miniature active device made in the UK. Any advice as to which road to go down, anyone, please?

The AXYs should have, at minimum, a pre-amp and low pass filter, I would imagine.  Possibly a Q switch. also.  I believe these are interchangeable with your Alembic P-Bass pickup.  I'd use the pre and filter from the AXYs and add a Q if there isn't one present.

David,

I'm no expert, but Bill sounds spot on to me.

You said you have a spare set of AXY pickups with some electronics- If you could lay it all out, take a picture and then post it I'm sure there are many here who would help you get it all sussed.
