Sound level fades
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:37:50 AM »
Just got a new Rogue 5. Played for about two hous. Duing the last few minutes the sound level faded. I checked the volume level on amp and guitar(I thought I may have acidentially turned volume on bass down). Nothing had been moved or changed. After a few seconds (15 or so) which seemed like an eternity)it picked back up. It's not a voltage/amp problem with wiring in the building!I bought my axe as a new/old stock  which means its been hanging around the display for a while. I haven't checked the battery yet but I will replace it. What could it be if it's not the battery?

Sounds like the battery. Otherwise check that all connectors are seated on the circuit boards. You can also check that the edge of the pc boards attached to the pots are not touching the side of the cavity.
If they are you might be getting a partial short to the shielding inside. To fix just remove the knob,  loosen the pot, turn the pot body slightly, tighten the pot and reinstall knob. Note the knob are collet knobs. See THIS for instructions on removing knobs.

It could also be the jack where you plug in. I've had that happen (not on an Alembic), jiggle it or reinsert it and the sound comes back. The problem I had went away by itself, I don't know why.

If that's the same battery that's been sitting in that bass since it was built, then yes, change the battery.  While you're there, make sure the contacts on the battery clip are free of corrosion.

And since this bass has been unplayed for so long, you may want to exercise the jack and controls.  Plug and unplug a phone jack twenty or thirty times.  And rotate all of the controls back and forth through their full travel twenty of thirty times.

It's probably the battery.
