ACME cabs

Hi all!  I'm back from among the missing after having disappeared with my refurbished 1976 beauty (Thanks again to Mica, Susan, Ron and everyone else who was so challenged by the project!).  During my hiatus, I rebuilt my rig and am now using a Line 6 Bass Pod Pro, QSC PLX-3402 and two Acme Low B II cabs.  Holy crap, what an intense rig!  As much as I loved my eight single 15 Alembic cabs and a McIntosh MC-2300 in the '70s and '80s - this rig comes close to smokin' that one...and it weighs about 750 pounds less  8>).   Anyhow, has anyone else tried out the Acme cabs with their Alembic - Series or otherwise?

Oh Yes...thanks to a posting by Smokin' Dave in the Miscellaneous area under the thread Eden vs SWR (input request)...I decided to check the Acme's out.  They are absolutely fantastic.  Beautifully focused lows, and they sing sweetly from the mids, straight up to the highs.
 
I have a Low B4 and a Low B2...I use one or the other, and sometimes both depending on the situation.  I'm currently using the preamp out section of my Ampeg SVTIII head, and running that to an Eden WT1000 power amp (I love the sound of my Ampeg, but with only 450 watts, it certainly doesn't have enough power to run the Acme's).  I have been looking at the QSC PLX-3402 for the past few weeks now, and will be going for one as soon as I get some extra cash.  As far as pre-amps, I'm debating between the Ampeg SVT-Pro and the Alembic F-1X.
 
Since discovering the Acme's, my SWR and Eden cabs don't make it out anymore.

P.S.  The Alembic I'm using thru these cabs is a 5-string Mark King Deluxe.

I'm surprised that you are so taken with the Pod Pro. I have one and I was using it for recording on my protools rig. In my opinion, the F1X kicks its butt. Even for recording the Alembic has better tone reproduction. For guitar the Pod Pro is killer but the bass version left me wanting a lot more. I've used it with a Crest LA 1200 and FA 1200 with my Epifani 310 and SWR Big Ben 18 (with Bag end speaker). I went right back to the F1X. But whatever works, works.  I've just used the F1X for Doomtree, a dark punk band. The full download is available for a few more days only at www.doomtree.com

Hey Chris, welcome back.  I too picked up on the ACME post from Smokin Dave. I have one Low B II and run an F1X into my Trace Elliot into a Stewart World 1.2 (700w) Only had it out of the house a few times but it's a NICE rig. I've ordered a Low BI which will arrive this Friday. I also have a Euphonic Audio iAmp350 head on order. Can't wait to get all the pieces.

I've been a big Acme fan for five years now. I've got a Low B 4 powered by a QSC PLX2402 and an Ampeg SVP Pro. I've got a Low B 2 powered by a Carvin R600. My Alembics never sounded so good!

Are you saying that your F-1X works better in the studio as well?  Don't get me wrong - NOTHING beats the sound of my old F-2B with my Baby, but for portable use, the sound of the Bass Pod Pro / PLX-3402 / (2) Acme Low B II rig is absolutely staggering.

Yep, I've been recording with it since 92. Depending on how I want to control the track I use the 2 outs High low or the xlr in the front. For me the Pod Pro Bass unitcan sound cheesy. I've used it in a variety of studio enviornments, 24/48 analog reel to reel, Mix 24 protools, protools , adat, digital performa, tascam 38, even on 4 tracks. Every time the engineers and other players cant get over the sound right out of the unit without having to do anything else but sit in the control room with one or 2 cables. It all depends on what you are going for. Each time I plug in with any of my basses (8 Alembics 83' through 2002) into the aforementioned rig, I get such a feeling of satisfaction. The Pod was ok for some of the time but the tone was not there. I even used it in a rehearsal studiuo through an Eden double 410 stack. Didn't even come close to my ears. I'll be taking by 310, 118 F1X LA1200 on the road again for a short tour in March. Kids are used to seeing 810's and an SVT but then again they aren't used to seeing Alembics either. Again, whatever works for  a person, works. I may bring the Pod as a third back up preamp rig. In additiop to my 2 F1X's.
