Hello all you Alembic lovers,
I'm Derrick Englert from Richmond, VA. In March I received my first Alembic bass. It was a agonizing 9-10 months in the making, but I couldn't be happier. I was just so anxious to get and play my bass. My bass is a Custom Clarke Deluxe with some cool little upgrades. The top and back are made out of Redwood that I sent to Alembic personally. I upgraded the core wood to Vermillion. The electronics are now 20th anniversary electronics. Abalone ovals on the fingerboard. I had an inlay of my initials placed under the bird tail-piece. The D is made out of a Bass Clef. The inlay was my Design, but Susan and Mike tweaked it to make it perfect. I couldn't be happier with any other bass. I saw it on Alembic's home page as the current featured custom, and I have no doubt that it looks far better in person than it does in the photo. Enjoy and congrats!
How would you describe the sound?

Derrick: I've been watching your bass progress in Factory to Customer. It came out great! I particularly like the initial inlay. What a great design. Your curly redwood is both unusual and beautiful.

What a beautiful bass they built for you. I love the curly redwood, it looks as though you could get lost in the grain. The inlay work is so nice. It's all so understated and yet mesmerizing at the same time. Congratulations on another Alembic masterpiece.

Just amazing - it looks like the wood has both a nice vertical grain and a beautiful horizontal quilting effect to it. Yes, Brother Hollis, mesmerizing is a good word to describe this. Unique, gorgeous will work as well!

Derrick:

That's a real nice piece. Congrats on the completion of your baby, and Custom Of the Month bragging rights as well! It's not like you see curly redwood like that every day, especially on an instrument. Gibson's Custom Shop did a redwood-topped custom Les Paul not that long ago. It was nice, but it didn't have that awesome figure like yours has. Good Luck with the thing.

Truly beautiful axe, . . .I notice it's Featured this month. Very cool. I own it's long long ago distant relative - a 1974 Alembic Small Standard. It's 30 years old and still sounds incredible. You now have an instrument for Life my Alembic Brother. . long may you two make great music!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I'm so excited and honored to have my bass be the custom of the month. I'll put some pictures up of this piece in action. Don't worry this bass is not just a piece of furniture; it's my workhorse. Man it sounds great live and in the studio.

I have to upgrade my rig now. These Alembics deserve an extremely balanced, full range sound. I'm running it through a SWR Bass 750 and Goliath III. I'm thinking of moving to Eden 410 XLT & 115 XLT with 2- FX-1 Preamps and a stereo Power amp. My bass has stereo electronics to split the neck and bridge pick-ups. The neck would go through the 15 and the Bridge through the 410. What do you guys think? Can you think of any supplements or substitutions for my set-up?

Thanks again for the nice comments. I am incredibly proud to now be apart of the Alembic family. You guys are so helpful and nice. I have my 6-string in the making in my head right now. It will be a couple years though. Peace!

Excuse my Dyslexia. I meant F1-X pre-amp.

The sound is great. The bass has very smooth lows which I didn't think it would have since its a short scale. The mid's and hi's are super punchy and articulate. Wow! I didn't know they could be that loud. Right now, I pretty much play with my amp preamp flat, just with a little bass boost. The only reason it needs that is because of my rig. If I do the above set-up I think it will be amazing. Oh wait it already is.
