Alembic Sighting

I was watching American Hardcore the other day.  It's not a porno haha, but rather a movie documentation of one of my favorite eras...late 70's and early '80s hardcore punk.

The band Black Flag had this teeny little woman bass player, and in one of the clips (all live show clips) of the song 6 Pack they show her playing this lovely looking Alembic Spoiler with all these crazy punkers moshing and dancing fervently around her.

It shocked the hell outta me, but I guess the Alembic tone trancends most all styles of music.

And if you're into punk it's a fantastic historical document of the musicians and their aspect of what the music scene was like.  It reminded me of the Grateful Dead in a way, except that it was a collective of many bands making this music rather than one collective of musicians (GD).  The audience dedication and the musician's dedication the that way of life was very similar.
The only thing that stays the same is change.

The Alembic was integral to my role in The NeoTypes and POWs punk/alternative Nashville-based bands back in the early 1980's!

Kira was a schooled, skilled musician compared to a lot of bassists in the punk scene, but as far as I knew she's played Rics forever. Thanks for the knowledge!

Dudes and dudettes, we played at Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont Friday night, opening for the Easy Star All Stars - I let their bassist Irie play my Essence, he was literally worshipful and swung and loved that puppy like it oughta be done.

I noticed a photo of Mike Gordon of Phish backstage, pretty sure he was playing a Series I in it, I'm not a big Phish fan but I wouldn't be surprised...

Whaddya know...glad I wasn't seeing things eligilam!    In the words of Cake...That proves that you saw, you heard of it first.  How do you afford your Alembic lifestyle?

And I'm glad to know there are other punkers in the Alembic world!
