Hi All,
What are the procedures for shipping an instrument back to Alembic for a general overhaul. Do I contact Mica first? Are you put into a queue? Can anyone estimate a ballpark turnaround time? I searched this topic and didn't find anything. Thanks so much.

Suggest you call. Generally the easiest way to get hold of Mica but for general questions Mary would also be able to help you. Email works, too, but the response time may be slower.

Definitely call first, discuss what you want to be done to the bass, then ship when you're ready. Turnaround varies based on the work you're requesting, if there's electronic work involved etc.

In the past, I've taken the opportunity to call in advance and set up a time to go there in person. It's worth the trip.

Let me know what's up with your guitar and we can schedule a time for it to visit if needed. Depending on the nature of the work, we can sometimes get the job completed while you wait, or we might send you to lunch and you can pickup it up later in the afternoon.

That's what we did. Best day ever! I have a copy of the original hand drawn Series I schematics that Ron gave to me. Best day ever. My bass was fixed after a couple of years limping through my repair attempts. Best day ever. Had a tour of the factory and met all the folks. Best day ever. Flailed away at some basses in the showroom. You get the idea

Not to be a killjoy about the visit or to state the obvious but the while you wait part of the equation is going to be determined by what you mean by a general overall. It's one thing to replace a tailpiece, bridge, or faulty PU quite another to add front LEDS, replace the electronics, add controls, etc.

There is no question, however that a visit is well worth the time and cost even if it just results in your dropping off your Further and the folks at Alembic shipping it back to you at a later date.

Headed up to Santa Rosa tomorrow morning to bring my 78 Series I five-string in for proper documentation. Mica told me a couple of years ago there are no existing build sheets or pictures for many of the earlier instruments.

When I set up the appointment I asked about having a master volume installed and Mica told me they could do it while I went to lunch. Seemed like the perfect time to get it done. Looking forward to the visit!
