OH YEA it was a fun one to learn to say the least. That and Carry On by Kansas where 2 of the more challenging tunes we did back then.

Wikipedia link digest of alembic players.

Some, like Ace, have simply said I have an Alembic and will use it compared to others who live, breath and are buried with their alembics. By no means comprehensive. List assembled for my own research purposes so some obvious names like Garcia are not here.

The link above to Riders of the Purple Sage refers to two old bands from the 1930's through the early 1950's.  I suspect neither of these used Alembics.  The correct reference should be to the New Riders of the Purple Sage, the Grateful Dead spinoff band that was formed in 1969.  IIRC, founding member singer/guitarist/songwriter John Marmaduke Dawson used an Alembic.  I believe Dave Torbert, the bassist following a brief stint by Phil Lesh, may have also.

Yes, Torbert had the single cutaway Alembic that gets mentioned every once in a while.

You can see it briefly on the 'Closing of Winterland' DVD extras.

Dela217 posted a picture of Torbert's in this thread; there was a picture of Dawson with his somewhere but I can't find it.
