Oh man. AJ was one of my absolute heroes. HE gets the credit for being the first electric bass player to go low (and high) with his 6-string "contrabass guitar". He always had an amazing bass sound and a deep groove. Plus he could do some acrobatic things that I simply could never play, and make it sound easy. ["Prehistoric Bird" from a rather obscure album by Michael Urbaniak - the peak of mid-70's fusion.] The O-Jays "For the Love Of Money", c'mon! Then Chaka Kahn's early 80's albums. Rumor has it producer Arif Mardin let AJ take the multitrack home to create his bass parts. And the results are such a joy they still make me giggle.
Thanks for your beautiful contribution to the bottom-end of music. Rest in peace AJ.
