I knew you had that bass George, but I had somehow missed its history... very cool backstory! Glad it ended up with you.
Regarding the string nut, I had an '85 Distillate fretless with what I am fairly sure was a bone nut. FWIW, Alembic had no record of that bass having been built as a fretless, or any detail of the nut material recorded, but that's what it was.
