77-804 For Sale on eBay
« on: November 14, 2024, 07:18:17 AM »
This popped up this morning on eBay:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/326338175783?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m164380.l178264&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=d6017c9210334d459aca34cc99d049bb&bu=43199323312&ut=RU&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20241114013746&segname=11021&recoId=326338175783&recoPos=1
I don't think we've seen this one before.  77-804.  Sent to mothership for a neck crack and the 5-pin has been disconnected.  No power supply.  Price seems a bit ambitious and the electronics are a little suspect.....why disable the 5-pin connector?
Where are we going...and why am I in this Handbasket?

I love to see a defining characteristic in a headstock... it's like a face or a fingerprint you can't forget. In this case, it's a whole family. There are at least a half-dozen other Alembics with that cute little headstock face with stripes, and one with it on the reverse side that I can remember. One is a guitar. I can't remember what its number is right off.

Here is 77-810 and 77-813. 815 is another. I'm guessing they are all grouped somewhat close. Whose-ever idea that was back-in-the-day... nice call. 😊

I also love the purpleheart "wings" (not sure if that's the right word) on the outside portions of the headstock.  My bass has the same thing, and it's also from 1977.  I had never seen this before I got this bass.  Subtle difference, but I think it looks super cool.

Similar to the headstock stripe that Edward pointed out - maybe there were some design ideas in ~'77 that were somewhat unique to that period?  Or maybe it's just coincidence.
