Hi guys,
Ill start by saying that I have a Brown Bass, (Mono/Stereo output)
basically Im looking into getting a stereo poweramp and eventually an F2B.... but for now I currently have a Eden WT400.
I'm looking to use my Eden as a Preamp for the time being and I was hoping to get some info from others who might have used this setup or a similar one.
My thinking right now is that Ill get a good stereo poweramp and when I have more money I can get my F2B, but for now I want to take advantage of having the Power amp running with my Eden. Can anyone tell me what I will gain by doing this tone wise, the Brown is very clean and transparent sounding as it is, will using a PA with the Eden make it even Cleaner. The only setback I can see would be the weight factor of lugging around an amp head and a poweramp in my rack, but nonetheless a small sacrifice.

I might be totally wrong here, but I would think most of the tone shaping of the Eden would be wired into the preamp stage; and that therefore running the pre out to a power amp would not significantly effect the tone. But I'm just speculating, I haven't A/B'd it. I can tell you changing from the Eden to the Alembic preamp will make a significant difference in tone.

I have an Eden Time Traveller; not exactly a WT400, but perhpas close enough. When I wanted more coverage, I took the preamp output and fed it into the poweramp input of a Carvin R600. All I wanted to do was just boost the great sound that I already had. But it sounded like S&#$! The Eden sound is not replicated well, (at least by the Carvin) so I am of the opinion that there is some type of sound shaping going on in the Eden power amp stage also.

from what I have been hearing... I can run from the DI out of the back of my eden into the poweramp (eden recommends the 1/4 inch headphone/out in the front as well)... and from what I hear it sounds great.... I assume the choice of poweramp affects the tone greatly... Im looking at the Mackie 1400i/Crown CE1000/ Maybe a stewart world 1.6

What you're describing are high-end poweramps, and no doubt will do a job a thousand-fold better than the CARVIN, but if you can try it out and are able to 'HEAR' the end-result before purchasing the poweramp, you won't get any surprises. You may end up with a sound better than the Eden sound, but that's for your ears to decide.
Let us know what happens.

I wish I had the opportunity to hear samples before i went and invested in a power amp!!!!. for now Im just doing my homework and shopping around.

I use Mackie 1400i's to power my PA. I've used 'em for several years, good, clean sound, never had any problems with 'em.

The Mackies definitely look Built to Last...and I hear all good things about them ( I will most likely end up with one).
But, has anyone heard anything about the Carvin DCM1500, from carvins web site it seems Bass Player Mag reviewed them and gave them high marks...good price point as well...
