Wondering what the setlist of a band called Steely Dead would look like.

Wolf (Sonicus) and I will be playing tonight with Dead Enough at The Bistro in Hayward.   I believe it is also “Santacon” night which, as I understand it, means we’re going to have a roomful of Santas!

The gig went very well.  Lots O Santas!   We played one, long, 3 hour set.  Big Fun!

Unfortunately, everything blew up the next day.  Our keyboard player, who was smoking weed on stage and, I found out later, was also tripping on mushrooms, sent out a LONG diatribe of an email on Sunday accusing the rest of us of being unprofessional and drunk.   (The drummer and I each drank one glass of beer during the 3-hour show).   He went on to criticize the rest of us for various off-the-wall imagined reasons.   He told us we are all "fired" and he would play this Saturday's gig, in which we are booked to play the Telegraph Avenue Street Fair, with a pick-up band he'll put together this week and we are ordered not to show up!   (He was the contact person for this gig).  I've tried to contact the organizer to get a resolution as to who is playing and, if it is him, to remove our name from the advertising and social media.  Still waiting a for a response, so I don't now if we're playing at the Fair or not.  What a total clusterf**k!   I have no problems with band members disagreeing, stating their opinions, and even quitting.  I have a HUGE problem with band members who refuse to honor their commitments before they leave.  This is the fist time I've experienced a band member flipping out, losing touch with reality, quitting, and stealing a gig!  Needless to say, we are looking for a new keys/vocalist.

One of the Santas was an older, shinny guy in a light pinkish body suit.  When I first saw him walk in the bar, I thought he was wearing nothing but a Santa hat.  Scary stuff!

Well, we've got the gig back!   We'll be playing on Telegraph Avenue on Saturday, 1-4 p.m.   If anyone is in Berkeley, come by and say hi.

Played the Telegraph Avenue gig today.  WHAT A BLAST!   It was a wee bit chilly (around 60) and it took a while for my guitar to stay in tune, but once I got warmed up, I didn’t notice the temp.    We had a constant crowd with many hanging out for a few songs and several stayed for an hour or more.  (Telegraph was filled on both sides with vendors for several blocks).  We played about 3.5 hours with one 10 minute break and one 5 minute break.   We had a little hiccup at the beginning when the generator didn't seem to work, but they got it fixed and we had no power issues.   Lots of good feedback, people seemed to really enjoy the band.  Of course playing Dead music on Telegraph Avenue in Berkley is a relatively low bar.

hehehehe

I may have missed it, but was the band the original line-up? That street fair is awesome! I haven't been in a few years, but I'm gonna make a point to visit it again.

We had the keyboard player from a really good Dead band called “Lovin’ Dead” sit in with us.  We had tried to mellow things out with the old keys guy and invited him to come back and do the gig, but he declined, sent an email with some really off-the-wall accusations disparaging us, and then said he hoped we could play again!   Fat chance.  We’ve already found a new keys/vocalist.

The fair continues for the next two weekends with a band each day.
