[SOLD] F-2B and custom built DS-5R
« on: July 21, 2023, 02:45:00 PM »
The preamp internally is in excellent shape as Ron Wikersham just recently went through the device to insure it is up to standards and also converted from ungrounded plug to a grounded plug.
I also upgraded to the highest 12Ax7's I could find on the market (see pics).

The case is in road worn condition but let's face it once it's in the rack what does that really matter?

The custom-built DS-5R was designed by me but was commissioned to MAD Creations in 2021. As you can see there are three input jacks. The traditional 5-PIN, a Stereo (called Rick 4003, but will take any stereo bass jack that splits two pickups) and a P-Bass (or really any mono bass jack). To use the P-Bass input you must flip the mono/stereo switch to the up (mono) position, for all other inputs (Alembic or Rick 4003) the switch should be in the down (stereo) position for proper stereo split.

Also, note that the outputs of the DS-5R are aligned with the F2-B inputs (unlike the Alembic DS-5R).

Lastly you will see two "switched" AC inputs. One was for the F-2B and the other was for the power amp in my live rig rack. The are tied to the from power switch of the DS-5R so the F-2B can be left powered on all the time.

Why am I selling this? This was from my live rig and I no longer play out. I already have an exact duplicate of this setup in my studio rack for recording.

A used DS-5R rack typically goes from $500 to $700. I paid more than that for this custom unit with all these extra features. As of today there is a 70s F-2B om Reverb.com with an asking price of $1400 + $58 shipping.

I'm asking $2000 + $30 shipping for both units on reverb.com

I'll entertain offers here but please, no offers to split them up.

funny.

that DS5-R setup is basically what i use to switch an SII with a 5-pin, a stereo anneversary with a TRS 1/4" and 2 mono basses to stereo amps.  it switches the amps to split mode for the stereo basses, tandem for the mono basses.  but it's not road ready.

very tempting.  i've been constructing a mental picture of what i needed to do to rack my system and what i came up with is very similar to this.  if i was actually in a band and needed to gig my setup (detailed in another thread here somewheres)  i'd probably jump on this with both feet.

but...
i made a vow - no more gear until the job is landed.  good luck with your sale, sir.  maybe we'll both get lucky - i'll find a band that needs a old stoner for a bass player and said old stoner buys yer rig.  i wouldn't hold my breath in either case but ya never know anymore.

Nice gear at a good price. I still prefer JJ tubes though, but no disrespect meant by my saying so.
