I have an Elan, which I love. It came with 105’s. I’d like to go up to 110’s. What brand of roundwounds would you recommend? Thank you!

Going up in guage will only have a predictable effect when you keep to the exact same string - same manufacturer, same line. So do you know what strings are on the Elan, and what are you hoping to get from the heavier guage?

I'm a huge fan of compression wound strings. Alembic strings are compression-wound, I think, but I often get GHS PressureWounds or Ken Smith Compressors for most of my basses. As always, I go to Jason at FretNation.com for strings - he's always willing to verify which brands will fit if you measure the distance from the ball end of your current string to the tuner-side of your nut, and then to the post of the E tuner. With those numbers he'll find you a string with the correct winding length. He also had an Elan for several years, so he'll be doubly excited to help you!

Going up to 110's will require adjusting the truss rods, intonation, and possibly slight widening of the bridge and nut slots.  Your inquiry is so cryptic.  If you are going to ask a question like that, it is important for you to include the brand of string, the wrap type, the scale length, and most importantly, what you are lacking in a 105 set that you hope to achieve with the 110 set.  Music style, tunings, and if you play pizz, or with a pick, or like to slap are also quite helpful to know.  Once you fill in the thread with this info, folks can give you the info you need.

I’ve read here that lots of people like DR Sunbeams for round wounds, but Alembic strings are pretty nice too.  It’s probably going to be trial and error until you find the strings you like :)
