Well, the Old Commander’s been called home. He had a good run.

I had just signed on to post this awful news.

The Commander - and, of course, his Airmen - rank very high among my musical heroes.  The first time I sang "Seeds And Stems", it was 1974 and I was 18.  The last time was last night.

No, that's wrong; the most recent time was last night; the next time will be in a few minutes, and the last time will about the time you hear this kind of news about me.

Fly safe, Commander; you will be missed!

Peter (who wishes that perhaps ol' George had not smoke, smoke, smoked quite so many of those cigarettes.......)

One drink of wine, two drinks of gin...
And I'm lost in the ozone again.

Back in the early seventies we had all their albums, and played a lot of those songs, and got lost in the ozone along the way.

Sorry to hear this.

It reminds me of the time my Mom came upstairs just as Everybody's Doin' It came on my stereo. She heard the opener and made a comment to the effect that it was good to see me listening to some swing. Then the lyrics started. The look on her face was priceless.

My high school friend who took up pedal steel was influenced by Bobby Black and his playing in the Airmen. If hadn't been for Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen I think we would have been saved a lot of ear pain while Brian learned to play.

Another huge influence on a cub bass player back in the mid-70's  A bandmate turned me on to "live from deep in the heart of texas" and it opened my mind to a world of swing, shuffle and boogie that i thought belonged to the rednecks.  I was hooked from the opening stanza of "armadillo stomp".   got it playing right now while i endure another day of toil and tears in the engraving shop.  enough to bring a tear to my eye!
Been down...now i'm out!

Saw the Commander and his band many times in the 70s, always a good time. The first time we went to see them at My Father's Place in Roslyn we didn't know much about the band or the music. Given the name a woman I was with was really disappointed that they didn't wear some kind of space costume but enjoyed the music. Rock on through the ozone....

I got to see them at the Lone Star Road House, in NYC, many years ago. He bought us a beer, as he was at the bar having a burger before the show. Really nice guy, and a great showman. He couldn't keep St Peter waiting any longer. RIP.

They pretty much changed this country boy’s life. Not too many bar bands played “Mama Hated Diesels”, but we never got a complaint when we did. Really sorry to have to let go.
