Wanted: Early set of Alembic Series Pickups - brown

Looking for a set of early brown/tan pickups for an Alembic Series 1.


Anyone upgrade to a newer look and still have the old ones?

I think the folks at Alembic can make them new in brown?

We make them in various shades of brown, and they look like they look, but they don't look like a aged set. Time is difficult to replicate.

As long as they sound right, fit, and are “factory”, it’s all good.  And in 50 years they will look like the original set, right? 


Has anyone tried painting their pickups to get a specific color?

I think paint would wear off pretty quick, if it stuck at all.

Personally, if you're talking about the bass I think, and I had that particular bass, and it needed a pickup, I would have a matched set made by Alembic and just let the caramel/brown color be what it turned out. Your humcanceller is hidden anyway, so no need to match it with color. They're the only people who can get it right.

Or for a really longshot, if you could reason with this guy, these pickups were probably close the same batch as yours. I strongly suspect this bass is a very close relative. I wouldn't hold my breath on a deal, but there are likely some pretty rare parts in that thing that very few other Alembics have, or need.

Paujones, Mica and Ron just made a new set for my '77 Series 1; I specified plain black just like the originals, as they give you a choice of color. The newer pickups are quieter, noise-wise, than the older Series pickups they replaced. The newer pickups also sound stronger than the older versions.

I missed the one in LA... but all good.  Mica and Ron are making me a new set... not sure if they are trying out the early color or we are going with new ones.  Either way, it will be "factory" and sound great.   


Just a bummer than I was only able to use that 73-43 for a few shows last year.  It was great - making it to Hawaii, starring in our promo video at Fleetwood's on Front Street... but then I had a power issue connecting to the front circuits, and a couple months later, the pickup died.  The bass was rock solid and sound great otherwise.  It had a nice growl compared to my other Alembics. 


I am "patiently" waiting for the new pickups, and a new custom build series 2 fretless.  That one will be rather special and I can't wait.   


Good things are coming as the music biz starts opening for business in Northern CA.   We actually have a couple gigs in April!  Indoors and everything!
