Silver and Gold on a Buckeye Burl MK Deluxe

-- STRING RELATED CONTENT FOLLOWS --

years ago i owned a steinberger XL-2 with a haz-labs preamp.  Except for my Series II, it had the best sound of any bass that i owned at the time.  I've been a rotosound guy ever since the mid-70's and i've put them on every fretted bass that's passed through my hands ever since.  that stienberger was the only bass where routosounds were just too snarly and i could not dial it back.  Someone suggested double-ball end optima golds and they were just the ticket - they tamed the tone on that beast down to the point where i could use it on just about every type of music that i was playing at the time.  Plus the gold strings on that black bass just looked...awesome.

Fast forward about 20 years, it's time to restring the somewhat smaller armada of basses that i currently posses, i'm putting in my order to juststrings and lo and behold, they make a 5-string set that's the gauge i use on the MK.  I'm not 100% sold on the sound, i think i'll probably go back to the rotosounds once i wear this set out. But the chrome hardware and gold strings over a buckeye burl top sure is an interesting look, dontcha think?

every time i look down at the top of that bass while i'm playing it, it's like i'm floating over the cloud tops of jupiter.  crazy, daddy-o!
Been down...now i'm out!

I’ve been searching for gold flatwounds. Does anyone know who makes them?

LaBella makes a few of these 'Deep Talkin' sets in a gold alloy, Brian. I have no firsthand experience with them.

Thanks Greg. Does anyone here know if the La Bella stanard length will work on an Alembic short scale bass. I would love the look of these on my Koa Series I. I'm assuming these are intended to work with a 34.

Gold strings look great, no question about it.
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!
