Round or hex core strings

I have always used hex core strings (without giving it much thought) on my Alembic Orion 4.  40-100. I now use nickel not stainless, by the way, but that doesn't affect my question.
What would be the difference if I changed to round core?  I tend to dig in when playing and whilst I would like a slightly easier tension on my ageing fingers, I don't want the strings to be rattling around all the time.  My action is G string - 3/32" at 12th and 4/32" at 24th frets.The  E string - 4/32" at 12th and 24th frets.  Those distances haven't moved in years.

Round cores should be softer on the fingers. As far as I know there aren't many brands that offer both styles, apart from DR (Lo Riders are hex, Beams are roundcore), GHS (Boomers only) and TI, so those might be the only options if you want to compare like with like.
