Tonight was my debut on double bass ( classico) and for a first one it went really well.
I had a rehearsal this afternoon and used the classico for a couple of tracks and from the moment I got the bass out of it's case till the end the rehearsal the band members were in amazement about the bass. It's sound, look was what they were so impressed with. I was surprised at how big the sound was through my bass rig compared to my series II 5ver.
Later at the gig I was complimented by a number of musicians about my intonation especially when they were told it was my first gig on DB and only had 3 lessons. I personally don't think it was pitch perfect as I could hear my correcting of some notes. But I don't know if that correction is quick enough to fool the listener that there is no pitching problems.
But I still took the compliments with respect. Everyone I spoke to absolutely loved the sound of the bass and the proper jazzers in the audience seemed to have the view that it sounds just like a double bass but the notes sound much bigger. fuller and powerful.
With the number of comments about the classico, I think easily it stole the show. A couple of bass players who know I only play alembic, googled alembic double bass during the gig to find out what it was as they didn't know Alembic even made them. Well how would they?
I love it.... !!!
