So...we played our first gig last weekend with IEM's and I was really happy overall. I'm still going to upgrade the ear plugs, but I like the overall concept. For the first time I could hear my guitar over the drummer's snare (I stand right next to it). Now I'm thinking of going the whole "Silent Stage" route and eliminating my amp and cab all together. I'd love to be able to just bring a guitar and pedalboard to rehearsals and gigs, as I've become that lazy since turning 50!
I've got a Ethos Clean preamp and a Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. so I'm good to go there. The one thing I'm not clear on is what I do about crafting my sound on songs at home prior to rehearsals and gigs. If I run the preamp and Cab Sim through a traditional guitar cabinet, I'm going to get a very different tone compared to what will be coming out of the mains during rehearsals and gigs. By the same token, if I try using headphones or IEM's at home, I'm also not going to get the same sound as that coming from the PA.
Do I need to buy a FRFR speaker for home? Do I need studio monitors? Is there something else?
Regards,
Jonathan
