Asheville Mini-Meetup 02/16/19

Subsequent to his long period of recovery from his medical procedure, Gregory set out on a trip to visit friends and family, and decided to take a detour to visit us in Asheville for lunch and a little time to play and talk about Alembics.

He brought his Martin and started in on some of the songs he knows (he sings really well), but I couldn't keep up with him; so he graciously played along on some simple chord progressions that I came up with.

When we were both playing our Alembics, we got into some Grateful Dead type improvisations that were pretty nice.

Very nice!  Glad Greg is up and about and you guys got to jam.  All beautiful instruments, but I gravitate towards the 70s Series I.

The whirlwind tour of North Carolina is complete - I just got back home a little bit ago! Yes indeed, I finally got to visit Dave in the quaint setting of Bens Cove, not too different from Masons Cove here in Virginia. 


Don't let Moderator Dave be to modest here... he's a MONSTER bassist and I had a blast just experiencing someone else's vision of music for an afternoon. It was a very natural fit acoustically with just my old D-18. Also took along my very first Alembic, Persuader 5-string #89P5559, which came my way 5 years ago this-coming Spring. Told Dave, that's the one that started it all for me! I had a great time handing instruments back and forth all afternoon, and a delicious lunch too before heading East to visit some other friends and family today. (I'm the living embodiment of the Merle Travis tune "Kinfolks in Carolina") 


Hope to make it a regular event.

I did get to spend some quality time playing "Karma"... that is a remarkable instrument, and the way it's Series II output is run through a sound processor and various modeling capabilities, there's just not much it can't do, sonically. Listening to her while sitting between a pair of Bag End speaker cabinets is quite heavenly.

While the official CA Alembic gathering is always a great time a local mini-meetup is the next best thing. So many truly nice people here in the club and always a pleasure to meet and hang with them! Thanks for sharing your day together with us...
