Hopefully resolved?
About a week ago my 1980 Series 1 Bass bridge pickup lost a lot of its levels all of a sudden along with some added noise and hum.
I finally got around to do some troubleshooting today with the level / hum canceling pots. The level pot was almost non adjustable level wise (hardly any gain) and the hum canceller pot did in fact bring in and out hum. So Hmmmm? Looked at the pickup connectors at the circuit board and noticed they were all to easy to pull in and out. No resistance of any kind of seating. Looking closer I noticed they all have a slight bend at the end of the male end of the pins on the circuit board side. In fact one of the pins (bridge pickup) was slightly less bent. With needle-nose pliers i slightly gave a bit more bend to the existing bends resulting all connectors seating in nice and snug.
Back to the level and hum cancellers. Level the same but the swing of the hum canceller around mid spin was getting a popping sound (DC?) until I worked it out. Level then worked, then no more hum then back to a great sounding Series Bass!
With all the temperature / humidity swings this winter?
Anyway played great tonight. Maybe this could be helpful to someone in the future.
Peace,
Pete
