Another Alembic Added to the Stable
« on: April 01, 2017, 11:54:28 AM »
Just agreed to the purchase of a short scale Series I that I've been looking for over the course of several years. I'm just dying to get in to my hands on it and was planning on flying down to Chicago area today to make the purchase, rent a car and carefully drive it back home to Minneapolis.  Unfortunately, while I can fly for free, its only when there are seats available and several paying passengers booked on an earlier flight who missed it took the last seats.  I've now got another full week of waiting. :-\

This was one I have been looking at for quite a while.  I almost purchased a shorty S-I that was on Reverb (it had an interesting configuration in that there were some neck lams where there would usually be body wings) but the seller would not come down in price unless I gave up the cable and DS-5.  I also found out from Mica that the bass had probably encountered a broken neck and the extra lams were used to replace wood on the wings that had been damaged. I was going to play the asking price but with an acceptance offer already written decided to get back to someone selling another S-I which I liked better but thought was over priced.  Low and behold, he accepted my offer.  I'll get photos up after I pick it up next weekend.

Looking forward to your pictures. I was wondering what those extra lams on that Reverb bass were about... that makes sense. Cool fix... I like a bass with a story, even if I don't know it.  ;D

One day I hope to find an old Series I bass... but I'm really quite content now. Next step for me is having the electronics in my old Distillate upgraded, and that oughta' do me for a while... but one day... ::)

Once you get that itch for a series bass, it must be scratched!!
However, as i discovered,  that  usually just turns up the GAS!!

Great that you guys are removing the series basses from the marketplace and helping me save money. :-)
And im looking forward to those pictures.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!
