Mystery Guitar on ebay... early Alembic shopnight?
« on: June 17, 2016, 01:37:49 PM »
Pretty cool old mystery guitar here... with *maybe* an Alembic or Grateful Dead connection. It bears some similarity to #72-03 Series guitar we've seen here recently, and an omega cut like the employee-made Series guitar listed. Also, check out the wood back-plates. In the description, it looks like they're researching it through the usual suspects...  ;)

Really cool looking guitar albeit a bit pricey especially given the vague history. Would be very surprising if it wasn't made by someone with a connection to Alembic but it is going to take a small leap of faith for someone to fork over that kind of money without knowing exactly who.

I guess for the asking price, "Joker Guitar" is as appropriate a monicker as any.

Agree, asking price is beyond ambitious, especially given there's no supporting paperwork, but still worth a peek. I'll bet it does have a very cool story... just maybe not $173,000 worth. ;)

Somebody somewhere is bound to remember that guitar.

Not only is this guitar so "heavy" that it commands an opening bid of $173,000, (one wonders if there is a reserve?), but shipping will cost you an additional $560!  A relatively paltry sum for a guitar that MIGHT have been touched by Jerry's hands!  Hey, I once shook hands with Jerry at the Keystone Berkeley in 1974 after he showed up, unannounced, and played guitar for the second set of the NRPS show.  I figure I should be able to sell my fingernails for at least $10K a pop, right?

hehehehe
