Love it
« on: May 26, 2016, 10:33:06 AM »
So, a few weeks ago I was in Alaska (one our few enlightened states) to visit my new grandson.  It takes 2 days to get there, so we checked into a hotel in Juneau - where, on the sign-in form, i intitialed for a non-smking room that i would not, indeed, smoke - "including canabus".

Great story. Where were you ultimately headed? Assuming it was somewhere in the Southwestern portion of the state that is only accessible by ferry.

We were in Alaska last summer (going back again in August) and despite "canabus" having been legalized there was no system for purchase established yet and public consumption was still not possible. One step at a time...

Our son is in Skagway; northern end of southeast.  Ferry, puddle-jumper, or one road - into Canada (nearest town, Haines, is a 40 minute ferry ride or an 8-hour drive with 2 border crossings).

And yeah, they have a real dilemma in Skagway.  Can't grow it in any quantity; ocean on one side & mountains on the other 2.  Can't fly it in; that's FFA.  Can't boat it in; that's Coast Guard.  Can't drive it in; that's the RCMP & Border Patrol.  So it's legal to have it, just not to get it there......

Time to get some grow lights and start growing!

I know here in CA that with a med card, you can legally grow 6 plants for personal use.

We were in Juneau, Sitka, Haines and Gustavus last summer. Haines is amazing, will definitely be heading back there at some point. We had to work around the Ferry schedules when we booked everything. Ferry system is great and you can't beat the views. To get from Haines to Gustavus we took a small Cessna on Wings of Alaska. Had to fly through Juneau and switch planes. Wings of Alaska had two fatal crashes last year both after we booked our flight. The second crash happened while we were in Alaska. We were a bit nervous about getting on a tiny plane anyway but that took it to a new level. The second leg of the trip the pilot let a 7 year old boy co-pilot the plane... "when I give you the signal push this". Thankfully we got there okay. Kid and his parents were thrilled and the plane ride itself was actually pretty cool.

It will be interesting to see how AK proceeds with the production and distribution issue. There seem to be overlaps with Federal law as far as two of the major ways to transport goods of any kind around a huge state with very few roads. Lot of legal issues to hammer out including border issues with Canada.

In California, the state law imposes no specific plant limits.  A patient may grow "an amount reasonably related to current medical need".  Freedom sure feels good.  And we'll be getting a modest form of legalization (all of them so far nave been quite modest) for adult use on the ballot in November.  That will allow any person 21+ to grow six plants.

Thanks for the clarification on plant number, Bill.  I kinda figured you'd  be the guy that would know.    Define 'amount reasonably required' ;D

"Amount reasonably required" is determined on a case-by-case basis.  Some patients need more than others.  Also, ingestion method is an important variable.  People who cook with cannabis usually need more than people who inhale, whether smoking or vaporizing.  Then the whole issue of potential yield in a grow case comes up.  The cops usually testify to ridiculous numbers, often claiming a 2 ft. tall indoor plant puts out a pound, and you can cut it and have it grow back three times!  I've had a cop testify that 40 three inch clones grown in a two by two tray will yield 120 lbs.!  In actuality, regardless of the number of plants, if the grow is in a 2x2 tray, it will yield approximaely two ounces, not 120 lbs.
