Toucan F-5

This may not fall into this jurisdiction, but I thought I'd give it a try. I recently saw a 4-string bass shaped like a mandolin that had no identifying markings other than Toucan F-5 and a mother-of-pearl inlay on the headstock that sort of resembled a toucan.  The guy selling the thing told me it was made by some former Alembic guys several years ago, and, indeed, it appeared to have Alembic-type hardware.  I can't find any literature on a Toucan bass or company.  Does anybody know anything about these instruments?  By the way, it actually plays very well.
