Check THIS out. Probably the oddest way of playing bass I've seen.

I don't think I could put three consistent notes together holding a bass like that! And yes, he does sound good

We met Quintin years ago when he brought by his Spoiler and his amazing technique to our shop. He's quite a guy!

Please, someone tell me, does he always play with this technique?  Or is it just once in a while for effect?  I can't even imagine how he can do this.  I just tried.  It ain't working for me.

Every video on that site has him playing like that. I'm assuming that is the way he plays all the time. Must have a hella strong right arm to hold those Alembics and Spectors up!

I imagine now all these Alembicians seeing this, jumping at their axe. The other people in the house looking puzzled: what is he/she UP TO????
It's amazing.
For me it's a brillantly performed trick. His left and right hand are working in repeating patterns so he is doing pretty the same on different positions. It's not the playing position that amazes me, one can excercice tricks and I bet that -writing this- some brothers her are already further on the road in trying this. What amazes me is the stunning keeping of the beat in his variations.

PS: friends, you now I'm bad in names but who was this US bass-player who plays a leftee Tobias 5 string but strung upside down (low B down)? He has the same sound because he pluckes/hits the strings from the opposite side that we should do.

Those guys are really incredible, I have seen them once in Brussels 14 years ago. I was completely knocked out afterwards ;-)

I'm not sure It's him. I once saw a picture of the guy I'm looking for in a bass-player magazine at a class at BIT. You know Jean Blaute (sorry US-people thisis belgian stuff)? The guy i mean is a look-alike!

Yep Paul, still alive and kicking, it is has been a while since I had the time to post on this board. I can nearly follow reading all the threads ;-)
 
If you're looking for a Jean Blaute clone, I am sorry but I don't know any US bassplayer who looks like him. As I read the Tobias reversed order playing thing, I thought it was Jimmy Haslip.
